Why Did Travis Kelce Call the Mayor a Jabroni? What Result to These Insults?
Travis Kelce was getting himself going Sunday night after the Kansas City Chiefs had beaten the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 to win the AFC Championship Game. The All-Pro tight end was so hyped that he called Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval a “jabroni” during the Lamar Hunt Trophy ceremony.
Kelce going full The Rock from WWE Raw in the early 2000s was not on my AFC title game bingo card.
In a video posted last week, Pureval said city officials would ask Burrow to take a paternity test if he beat him a third straight time to determine whether he was Patrick Mahomes’ father.
Why Did Travis Kelce Call the Mayor a Jabroni?
So, on Friday, Cincinnati’s mayor put out a controversial video where he asked a paternity test be done to see whether Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was the father of Patrick Mahomes.
For context, before Sunday’s loss, Burrow and the Bengals were 3-0 against Mahomes and the Chiefs—including a win last year in the AFC Championship game.
Safe to say Kelce and the rest of his team were aware of Pureval’s video and had something to say after the win.
The last laugh was, however, with the Chiefs, who will now prepare to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 12 at the Super Bowl.
Cincinnati Mayor Responds to Travis Kelce
Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce had some comments for Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval in the AFC Championship Trophy Presentation.
“I got a little message to the mayor: Know your role and shut your mouth, jabroni,” Kelce belted out from the podium late Sunday.
Kelce this week fired back at Mayor Pureval’s Friday tweet, in which he called for a DNA test to prove that Joe Burrow is indeed Patrick Mahomes’ father.
“While Joseph Lee Burrow, who is 3-0 against Mahomes, has been asked to undergo a paternity test to (confirm) whether or not he’s his father. And while Kansas City is named after its neighboring state, which is, you know, just kind of weird,” Pureval said.
Final Thoughts
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval may want to stay off social media for the next few days.
After all, the Kansas City Chiefs had won the AFC Championship, and tight end Travis Kelce delivered a post-game speech to remember in celebration of that win, especially when he called out Pureval.
“And for that mayor of Cincinnati,” Kelce then told CBS’s Jim Nantz with the AFC trophy in hand, “I got two words for ya: know your role and shut your mouth! You jabroni!
His words elicited thunderous cheers from those Chiefs faithful whooped it up at Arrowhead Stadium to commemorate the AFC title for their team.
As if his speech wasn’t already legendary, Kelce then belted out a best-worst rendition of the Beastie Boys’ “Fight for Your Right” right there on national TV.
