Why Did Dababy Make a Homophobic Statement? What Made Him Say It?

The internet and fans are still wondering and asking, “Why Did Dababy Make a Homophobic Statement” The rapper is highly condemned by fellow celebrities and social media activists after his Homophobic Remarks relating to those infected with HIV/AIDS.

DaBaby, whose hit “Rockstar” was the top Billboard Hot 100 song of 2020 and has been covered by everyone from The Kid LAROI to Olivia Rodrigo, asked fans Sunday night at the Rolling Loud music festival in Miami to shine their cellphone flashlights if they:

“didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two, three weeks,” among other crude comments about gay men and women.

What Led to Dababy’s Homophobic Remarks?

Dababy himself hasn’t made known the reason for making a Homophobic state at a concert, he merely said that his words were nothing more than a “call to action,”  Here is the homophobic statement he made:

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,” he told attendees. “Ladies, if your p—- smells like water, put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d— in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”

Rapper Dababy Receives Backlash For Homophobic Statement

Dua Lipa later took to Instagram Stories to issue a statement, saying, “I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments. I don’t recognize this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGTBQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”

The legendary musician Elton John, one of the world’s biggest gay and longtime HIV advocates, tweeted an infographic, which has since gone viral, where he wrote in part that he was “shocked” to hear the rapper’s remarks.

“This fuels stigma and discrimination and is the opposite of what our world needs to fight the AIDS epidemic,” said the singer in sharing the infographic message, with an ensuing post, “Your job is to bring people together.”

Final Thoughts

DaBaby, on the other hand, was on the up and up, having just two Grammy nominations in the bag that year, working with stars from Dua Lipa to Megan Thee Stallion and Jack Harlow, and constantly being at the Billboard Top 10.

But all that came crashing in July 2021, when the rapper launched into a disgusting homophobic tirade.

Within days, it had gone viral, and DaBaby was dropped by the fashion brand BoohooMAN and pulled from the lineup at festivals including Lollapalooza, the Governors Ball Music Festival, Parklife, and the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
